Committee on Lectures and Cultural Events

Welcome to the Wellesley College CLCE

The Committee on Lectures and Cultural Events (CLCE) is a multi-constituency committee made up of faculty, staff, students, and administration. The Committee sets policy and administers endowed funds to support lectures and cultural events that enhance the intellectual and cultural life of the Wellesley College community.

Types of Funding

How to Apply
Departmental

For the 2021-22 academic year, a maximum of $500 in departmental funds are available upon request. Only Department Chairs, Program Directors, and Academic Administrators are eligible to request funds on behalf of their respective department(s) or program(s). Funds may be used to support visiting speakers, performers, and for student-centered special activities.

Classroom Lecture

For the 2021-22 academic year, faculty are eligible to apply for a total of $500. For Summer Session 2022, instructors are eligible to apply for a total of $250. The funds are awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

These funds:

  • can be used to pay for multiple speakers

  • may not be paid to anyone on the Wellesley College payroll (i.e., faculty or staff)

  • may not be used to make a donation

  • may not be pooled by several faculty to provide a larger fee for a classroom speaker

General Event Funding

Events sponsored by the CLCE serve to educate and enrich the Wellesley College Community. Events that CLCE sponsors must be open to all College Community members. The types of events include lectures, panels, performances, workshops, cultural shows, and conferences designed and intended for the College Community and beyond. Wilson Lecture

The Wilson Lecture is the premiere speaking event on campus. Previous honorees have included Lisa Perez Jackson (Apple Inc.’s Vice President for the Environment), Caroline Myles (founder of the Save the Children Foundation), and Amy Smith (inventor and founder of the MIT d-LAB). Faculty members are encouraged to nominate people of national and international importance to be invited by the college president to come speak. The Wilson Lecture is always a banner event on campus.
